The Substance

Director Coralie Fargeat's daring satire tackles the demanding standards for women's appearance as well as the perceived horrors of ageing. Hollywood star Demi Moore presents an inspired portrayal as Elisabeth, a 50-year-old actress forced into hosting a workout series on television. Pushed out thanks to her slimy boss Harvey, she seeks out an enigmatic and terrifying treatment titled "The Substance". This creates a younger clone named Sue, culminating in a progressively toxic connection between them. Friday 17 October, Paramount Plus

The Woman in Cabin 10

This Agatha Christie-esque mystery stars the talented actress in the role of Laura, a top-notch writer who takes a break from reporting on international wars to join a luxury cruise accompanied by a terminally ill Norwegian shipping heiress and charitable figure, her husband, and other filthy rich passengers. However when an enigmatic female falls into the sea one night and the entire crew insists she wasn't real, her journalistic curiosity kick in. Streaming currently, on Netflix

This Supernatural Story

Soderbergh pushes his creative boundaries in this clever ghostly tale captured wholly from the viewpoint of a ghost. As a family with Lucy Liu as Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe occupies their recent residence, the camera – AKA the Presence – shadows their actions. The teen shows signs of sensing the ghostly being, and the entity appears guarding her. But why? This is an entertaining concept that avoids overstaying, featuring a surprise that could catch you off guard. October 11th, afternoon and evening times, Sky Cinema

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

Nicolas Cage fully commits to his unique fame via this autobiographical spoof. He acts as a narcissistic film star called Nicolas Cage who accepts a $1m payday to appear at a celebration at a Mediterranean location for the wealthy superfan Javi. Hired by the intelligence agency to spy on the suspected cartel boss, Cage's unique performing skills proves useful. Saturday 11 October, 9pm, on Channel 4

The Black Phone

Scott Derrickson's contained scarefest holds up well without requiring a follow-up. Located in the late 70s in Denver, multiple kidnappings has made the local kids anxious. After Finney is taken by “the Grabber” and held captive in a cellar, he dreads the worst. But the non-functional line in the room keeps ringing, with spooky callers giving advice, and the prophetic visions from his sibling Gwen may be his salvation. An effective horror. Saturday 11 October, nighttime, the Film4 channel

This Dramatic Portrait

In the conflict between spirituality and money, it's a knockout win for greed in this director's delightfully tacky film adaptation regarding the shamed televangelist and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield portrays the corrupt Bakker, who proclaims initially, asserting religious justification for riches. He and Tammy Faye commence capitalizing on the American public's Christian beliefs. It's a spectacle of tacky decor, bad makeup and bad faith, yet Chastain succeeds to present Tammy Faye as a sympathetic figure. October 14th, early morning, Film4

This Espionage Thriller

This period's second offering by the same director delivers a spy mystery as sharp as the polo necks worn by Michael Fassbender's UK spy. His assignment is to discover a traitor within their ranks from a group of five – including is Kathryn, played by Cate Blanchett. Each performer are experts of calm composure, so a delicious psychological game of truth or lie unfolds. Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela join in the intelligent intelligence fun. Friday 17 October, 8.05am, 12.55pm, 8pm, Sky Cinema Premiere
