Wimbledon Adopts Video Replay Technology in 2025.

The Championships tennis court with video review system

Wimbledon will follow the US and Australian Opens in utilizing replay technology.

Replay technology will be launched at Wimbledon in the upcoming tournament.

Competitors are granted the right to challenge certain rulings made by the official, following the protocol currently in operation at both the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.

This innovation will be operational on the main stadium and Court One throughout the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles matches.

This move follows just a year after the AELTC introduced electronic line calling, which brought an end to the longstanding role of line officials.

Reviewable Decisions

Players will not be permitted to challenge the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can ask for the umpire to re-examine specific decisions, including:

  • If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
  • Whether a ball made contact with an opponent's racquet or person on the way past.
  • Potential hindrance end of a point.

Importantly, there is an unlimited number on the amount of challenges a competitor can request.

A Recent Example

An illustrative case took place in Indian Wells last week, where a top player used the video challenge against his opponent.

Draper conceded it was a tough situation for the official, but believed his rival had "used the regulations quite well."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and determined the player was responsible for interference, awarding the point to Medvedev.

Wider Implementation

Video reviews aren't exclusive to Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have video reviews implemented at every one of its tournaments.

Additional Innovations

Another innovation at The Championships 2025 involves the introduction of visual indicators on displays to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.

This solves instances where fans have occasionally been uncertain whether a ball was in or out.

Finally, with exactly 100 days to go until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have further revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
